The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by Bryan Mealer and William Kamkwamba

Although this was a tad slow to start, something about the curiosity and perseverance of the protagonist left me encouraged and inspired by the end of the story. The biography takes place in Malawi and follows William’s adventure in creating a windmill in order to provide power to his community. William sees the land as a place that has been tortured by drought and famine. But his ingenuity and curiosity create a magical experience where he is able to change the lives around him.

I think about this book a lot, especially in light of climate change and how much worse those droughts and famine will be for countries prone to climatic events. But this inspiring story also reminded me of how much innovation and technology there is out there to counteract environmental problems and maybe if we centralized the topics on the developments, we would create more positive change.
